This is the moment a goat trapped on a steep rocky ledge on the UAE’s highest mountain for five days is rescued by the emergency services.

The incident was filmed at Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that is located in the Hajar mountain range in the country’s northernmost emirate of Ras al Khaimah.

According to Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, director of the Ras al Khaimah Civil Defence, the goat’s owner informed the authority that the animal had failed to return home and had become stuck on the mountain, providing useful information for where it could be located.

A rescue team was sent to the area to save the animal which had spent five days trapped on the ledge located 55 metres (180 feet) from the ground, according to the Civil Defence director.

In the Civil Defence video, the rescue team is seen taking ropes and equipment up a rock incline before extending a ladder to the goat’s precarious position.

A team member then scales the ladder to the rocky ledge to grab the frightened goat and tie rope around its legs.

The rescuer then lowers the goat down to colleagues with the rope before descending the ladder.

The team is then seen posing with the rescued goat.
