This startling footage of a bubbling molten liquid leaking out of a mobile phone is being used as a warning not to use the devices while they are charging.

The footage was shared online by Malaysian netizen ‘Cinnamon Girl’ and has since been viewed over 284,000 times and shared by over 10,000 other users on social media.

In the clip, a black mobile phone can be seen on charge with smoke coming from its side. The video then shows bubbling liquid coming out of the broken side of the device and onto the table cloth.

‘Cinnamon Girl’ wrote with the video: “I’ll never play with my phone while it’s charging, ever again. After seeing my grandfather’s phone explode next to me, it’s scary.”

After thousands of netizens commented she added: “So the conclusion is that many people are saying this phone brand quickly overheats, especially their older models. So it exploded when it was overcharged.”

She did not say what brand the phone was.

Many mobile phones employ lithium-ion rechargeable batteries which can be highly explosive in the wrong conditions.

Netizen ‘deenh98’ commented: “Note to self. I’m not going to play with my phone while charging ever again.”
