This amusing footage shows a female student playing calmly on her mobile phone as firefighters work to free her arm from the pipes of a squat toilet.

The unnamed student from the vocational Heyuan Health School in China’s southern Guangdong Province is said to have trapped her arm in the porcelain toilet while reaching for her dropped identification card.

The local fire service was dispatched to campus after she managed to use her free left hand to call her friends for help.

School staff then rang emergency services, which sent a team of six firemen to the women’s toilet.

The rescuers said they tried for 20 minutes to pull the girl’s right arm free; however, the limb appeared to be trap deep in the bending pipes and was now swelling as a result.

Fearing they would cause further injury to the girl, rescuers opted against heavy-duty tools and used a hammer and a chisel instead.

Video of the rescue shows the girl covered with a jacket as firefighters slowly and carefully break the porcelain squat toilet apart.

The clip also shows the girl playing on her phone throughout, with the device seemingly keeping her calm.

She was freed 30 minutes later, and a campus doctor confirmed that she had fortunately not suffered any serious injuries.
