The body of a missing six-year-old girl has been found in a canal after she went fishing with her father and his friends and they reportedly let her wander off while drinking alcohol.
The girl was found in the North Crimean Canal near the village of Lenino in the disputed Crimean Peninsula after she visited there with her dad on 31st May.
While her father and his pals started drinking by the bank, they reportedly forgot about the six-year-old girl and she wandered off.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, they received a report that the child was missing later that night.
The following day “divers found the girl’s body in the canal about 800 metres from where she was last seen”, according to the Russian ministry.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that the girl had gone to the canal with her father on the afternoon of 31st May.
She was reportedly left unattended when the group of adults started drinking alcohol.
The girl’s disappearance was reported to the local authorities by her grandmother.
According to local media, the father has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
