The body of a nine-year-old girl who ran off upset after a row with her parents has been found buried in a two-metre-deep hole in the basement of her apartment building after she was apparently murdered by a suspected paedophile neighbour.
According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Victoria Gnedova, the missing nine-year-old schoolgirl, was found dead in the basement of an apartment building where she lived in the city of Oryol in the Russian federal subject of the same name on 15th September.
Victoria Gnedova disappeared on 18th June. According to the news site Bezformata, she left her home in the village of Kazar in the district of Zalegoschensky after a quarrel with her parents.
For information that would help find out the girl’s whereabouts, a reward of RUB 500,000 (GBP 4,989) was announced. During the search for Victoria, and over 300 police officers and volunteers searched forests, water bodies, and coastal areas in the district.
Victoria’s body was later found buried in the basement of the apartment building where she lived at a depth of approximately two metres (6.5 feet).
The investigators of the Investigative Committee were able to identify the body by her clothes.
The Investigative Committee announced that investigators have detained an unnamed 61-year-old neighbour suspected of committing the crime.
According to the official spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, the suspect was previously arrested on suspicion of abusing another child.
The investigation continues.
