A jealous doctor has reportedly shot dead his younger wife and turned the gun on himself before their six-year-old daughter arrived home from school and stood outside ringing the doorbell.

It also emerged that the suspected killer wanted to commit suicide previously but his wife persuaded him not to, a move that ultimately cost her life as well.

The tragic incident took place in the third floor of an apartment building in neighbourhood of Fabrikalar in the southern Turkish city of Antalya.

According to neighbours, Dr Yusuf Onur Kaan Bozkurt, 58, frequently had jealous arguments with his dietician wife Gamze Kacar Bozkurt, 38, and had also argued on the day they died.

They reported hearing the argument followed by gunshots and then silence.

The incident occurred before their young daughter came home in the afternoon. The little girl, who rang the bell, went to her grandmother in the opposite flat when no one opened the door.

When Gamze Kacar Bozkurt’s mother, Nurdan Kacar, entered the house with a spare key, she found her daughter and son-in-law lying on the floor in blood and immediately rang the emergency services.

Police and medical teams were sent to the address, but could only confirm the death of the pair.

Meanwhile, the couple’s lifeless bodies were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.

It was revealed that the husband previously wanted to commit suicide with a gun at work and stopped himself after talking to his wife on the phone.

The couple’s death came after they featured on the cover of this month’s issue of a local magazine called Female. In the interview titled ‘Science and Love Together’, the Bozkurt couple talked about their love story.

In the interview, Gamze Kacar Bozkurt referred to her husband as ‘the most lovable and compassionate person in the world’, while Yusuf Onur Kaan Bozkurt called the time he spent with his wife as ‘dreamlike’.

It was learned that the couple broke up shortly after their marriage, started to live in separate houses, but then got back together and gave an interview where they talked about the positive things in their marriage to make a fresh start.

The couple’s daughter, 6, reportedly said at the funeral “I want my mother” and refused to accept she was gone when told that she had become an angel.
