A 4-year-old girl has died after her lorry driver dad forgot that she was asleep in the back seat of the car when he went to work and she was left there for 10 hours.
The tragedy happened in the town of Sungai Petani which is in the state of Kedah in Malaysia when the man was supposed to drop the child off with her grandmother.
The name of the father and of the child was not revealed.
A press release by Kuala Muda district police chief Adzli Abu Shah, said the child been trapped in the car for 10 hours with all the window shut and was unconscious when her father finally realised his mistake as his shift ended.
In a press release the assistant commissioner said: “Prior to that, the victim’s father who is in his 30s, had dropped off the victim’s sister at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Teluk Bayu here, at 7.30am, and then left for his workplace in Bukit Makmur, Sungai Lalang.
“The father forgot that the victim was in the car as she was sound asleep in the backseat. He was supposed to drive the victim to her grandmother’s house in Kampung Bukit, Sungai Pasir, before heading to work.”
The dad called emergency services and finding his unconscious daughter, but after trying emergency resuscitation could only pronounce her dead.
The child’s body was taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death and police confirmed they are carrying out an investigation under the child act against the father for the negligence.
