This heartbreaking footage shows a toddler trapped at the bottom of a dry well crying “save me!” as firefighters drop down a ladder to save her.
The two-year-old from Hefei, capital city of China’s eastern province of Anhui, is believed to have accidentally fallen into the 9-foot-deep well while playing nearby.
The narrow borehole, which was fortunately not filled with water, is just 70 centimetres (27 inches) wide.
Rescue video released by the Anhui fire service shows firefighters peeking over the top of the well to find the young girl with outstretched arms.
As firefighters devise a plan to rescue her using a long ladder, she cries out: “Help! Save me!”
The fire service said their smaller team member, Zhang Xuezhi, was sent down the well to save the girl.
Mr Zhang climbed down the ladder and carried the tot back up to the surface, with the girl reunited with her family members, the video shows.
The authorities said the rescue took “minutes”, and that the child was not harmed.
The borehole is not thought to have been covered at the time of the accident.
Reports did not say who owned the well, and whether they would be asked to better protect its opening.
