A two-year-old girl has died after falling off her first bike that she received on Christmas.

Little Eloah Maiane Freire dos Santos died of septic shock caused by a blood infection after she fell off her bike and injured her private parts, according to the news site G1.

The young girl was playing at home in an unspecified location in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina after unwrapping her first bicycle on Christmas Day.

After falling off the bike, the girl did not tell her mother about the injury until the next day when the area was badly swollen. She also complained of pain and had a fever, so her parents took her to a public hospital.

The mother said doctors only checked her quickly and prescribed medication for her pain and fever.

However, the toddler continued to complain of severe pain and the affected area became more inflamed by 27th December.

The parents took little Eloah to a private hospital, where she was reportedly prescribed medication for pain and inflammation.

The paediatrician told them that the pus in the wound had hardened and that they would need to bathe her in warm water to soften it and provide relief to the girl.

On the night of 29th December, the girl could not sleep due to the unbearable pain and high fever, and she woke up her parents.

According to G1, she started to convulse at around 3am and her parents took her to a public hospital, where she underwent examinations.

While waiting for the arrival of a paediatric specialist, she started convulsing again and needed intensive care treatment.

The girl reportedly died in an ambulance while being transferred to another hospital.

According to the victim’s parents, she died of septic shock caused by the blood infection.

The two-year-old girl was buried in the municipality of Peruibe in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, which is close to where the rest of the family lives, on 31st December.
