A 27-year-old man who set up home in a cemetery crypt has been arrested for digging up graves and scattering the human skulls he found around the city.
The bizarre incident took place in the city of Mykolaiv in the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolaiv Oblast when several human skulls were found by residents.
According to reports, one skull was found in a street rubbish bin while another was left on a woman’s doorstep with a note.
From the note’s contents, the woman was able to identify the suspect and she informed the police.
The local authorities discovered that the 27-year-old suspect was residing in an old underground crypt which is where he sourced the human skulls, according to reports.
In the footage, the hooded suspect is seen leading officers to an overgrown part of the cemetery where he apparently set up home.
Six skulls are seen displayed outside of the old underground crypt where he lived.
A police spokesperson confirmed he had set up a “temporary place to sleep and he lived right there in the crypt”.
Reports said that he is being investigated for desecrating graves and could face up to three years in prison if found guilty.
