Two German nationals have been killed in a Spanish holiday hotspot after posing for selfies on the rocks and being swept out to sea by a huge wave.

The incident took place at Aguas Verdes Beach in the municipality of Betancuria in the island of Fuerteventura located in the Spanish Canary Islands when the two unnamed victims, aged 58 and 40, were taking snaps on the rocks with relatives, including a wife and mother of one of the German men.

The two men were suddenly swept off the rocks by a huge wave along with a 38-year-old woman who was the niece of one of the victims, according to local media.

The woman managed to swim ashore despite reportedly suffering heavy blows all over her body.

Meanwhile, the German victims were dragged out to sea and they were spotted disappearing under the water at around 1.30pm on 10th February.

A rescue helicopter was sent to the area and soon found both bodies in the sea, according to local media.

Reports said that paramedics attempted to revive the men, but they were both declared dead at the scene.

One of the victims was found with a strong blow to his head and it is believed he may have been killed when he was dragged from the rocks by the wave and hit his head.

The victims’ bodies have been sent for an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death as the investigation continues.
