Two German men have been jailed for raping an Icelandic student when she was on a school trip in Greece and afterwards told her “thanks for your time” before stuffing money in her private parts.

The shocking incident happened in June last year when the two German men raped a 19-year-old tourist who was on a school trip in Hersonissos in the Greek island of Crete.

The victim was having a drink in a bar when she started speaking to the two German men, then aged 39 and 35. When she left the bar, they joined her but when they walked past a dark alley, they dragged her inside where she was raped in turn.

The woman said the 35-year-old man told her “thanks for your time” in English before placing a EUR 5 note and two coins in her private parts.

The attackers then left, leaving the badly-injured teen to make her own way back to her hotel where she filed a report with police. The two German men were arrested a short while later.

The teenager gave evidence in person during the court case in Greece and although she could not remember all the details of the shocking ordeal, she told the court she was absolutely positive that the two German men were the perpetrators.

The young woman, who had travelled to Greece from Iceland with her mother to appear in court, was questioned extensively and the court heard that because the two attackers used a condom, there was no DNA evidence.

Both men pleaded not guilty, claiming that they had never met the woman before.

However, jurors at the Heraklion court found them guilty on a 5 to 2 majority with the 35-year-old defendant also convicted of GBH.

The 35-year-old was jailed for four years and six months and the 39-year-old was jailed for four years.
