German Doctor Jailed For Raping Female Patients Under Anaesthetic

A doctor who had oral sex with his patients after he anaesthetised them has been jailed for 11 years for rape and possession of child pornography among other charges.

Anaesthesiologist Nils Nigel T., 43, raped at least two women at Sankt Elisabeth Hospital in the German city of Gutersloh where he was employed.

The 43-year-old defendant, who comes from the town of Oelde in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, was working as a paramedic before he studied medicine in the city of Munster in 2010.

He was employed as an assistant doctor at Sankt Elisabeth Hospital at the end of 2019.

Nils Nigel T. was arrested in December 2020 after one patient, aged 37, reported that she was raped shortly after her surgery by the doctor, who believed that she was unconscious due to the anaesthetic and would not notice anything.

However, he was exposed after the police detected traces of his DNA on the victim’s body. On his penis and underwear, saliva traces from the patient were detected, and in his backpack were USB sticks with porn, in which apparently unconscious women were abused.

There were also traces of semen from him on the collar of the patient’s nightgown.

He was later reported by another woman who claimed he attacked her after an operation.

Molecular biologist Katja Kiel, 53, told the court that she had found suspicious traces of DNA, according to German daily Bild.

The Bielefeld Public Prosecutor brought charges against Nils Nigel T. for rape, sexual assault, and possession of child porn after the police searched his private laptop.

He has also now been banned for life from practising medicine.

According to Judge Carsten Wahlmann, the 43-year-old man sexually abused and raped female patients after surgeries several times between September and December 2020.

One of his victims, named only as Helene C. in the German daily Bild due to strict local privacy laws, was awarded EUR 35,000 (GBP 30,000) in compensation.

She said: “I am satisfied with this verdict. But most importantly, that this man can never commit such acts again.”

Judge Carsten Wahlmann said: “You told us fairytales here that were refuted in the trial.”

Ruling out an early release, the judge added: “Only those who confess and repent can get this privilege.”

The judgement is not yet final and the doctor can appeal the decision.
