This is the moment a gaggle of geese is given their very own police escort after straying onto a busy motorway in Oregon and causing traffic mayhem.

The incident was filmed in the city of Beaverton in the north-western American state of Oregon after cops received a call at 10.30am that a family of geese was causing traffic problems on Highway 26 near the exit of Cedar Hills Boulevard.

In the footage, Beaverton cops are seen giving the mum and dad geese and their cute fluffy goslings a police escort on the motorway hard shoulder.

At one point, a considerate cop has to sound his horn to keep one goose from straying into the traffic hurtling past.

Another video filmed by the police shows the gaggle safely entering a nearby pond.

The Beaverton Police said on social media: “Traffic Alert… Police escort on Hwy 26 westbound at Cedar Hills Blvd. causing minor delays.”

After the geese were escorted to the nearby pond, the police tweeted: “After a mile walk, countless close calls with passing cars and a forty foot descent down a hill covered with blackberries, we made it.”
