Danny Lackey from the city of Greensboro, in North Carolina State, USA, was stunned when he realised that a USD 3 (GBP 2.47) Quick Pick ticket which he bought online had won him USD 100,000 (GBP 82,322).

Lackey, who purchased the ticket using Online Play on North Carolina Lottery’s Official Mobile App, said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “I downloaded the app on my phone since it’s just an easier way to buy them.”

But he reportedly never expected that he would match the right numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball to win USD 50,000 (GBP 41,133) on Saturday, 4th February.

The prize then doubled to USD 100,000 (GBP 82,322) after Lackey hit the 2X Power Play multiplier.

Lackey recalled: “I said to my wife, ‘I might not have mentioned to you that I’ve been buying some tickets online, but we won USD 100,000 [USD GBP 82,322].”

He collected the Powerball win at 2728 Capital Blvd, in the city of Raleigh on Friday, 10th February, and went home with USD 71,251 (GBP 58,596) following federal and state taxes.

When asked how he would spend his money, Lackey said: “We’ve got a number of people we have identified that we want to help out.”

North Carolina Education Lottery said: “Monday’s Powerball drawing offers a USD 45 million [GBP 37 million] jackpot or USD 23.7 million [GBP 19 million] in cash.

“The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.”

Powerball is one of the six lottery games along with Mega Millions, Lucky For Life, Pick 3, Pick 4, and Cash 5, which North Carolina citizens can buy online.
