This is the moment an armed gang posing as police officers kidnap a trader for ransom outside his home and flee the scene with a real cop patrol car in tow.

The startling scene was recorded on a CCTV camera in the colony of Morelos, in the municipality of Venustiano Carranza, in the Mexican capital, Mexico City.

In the video, a white car pulls up and two men already standing on the pavement then march the victim, who has not been named, towards the vehicle.

One of the gang has his arm around the victim’s neck and appears to be pointing a gun at his head as they push the man into the back seat.

The gang all then get into the white car which pulls off with a marked police car with the identification number 03090 following behind.

The victim’s family revealed that the kidnappers claimed to be police officers and that they took the man saying he was being arrested for drug smuggling.

The gang are said to have demanded a ransom fee of 100,000 MXN (4,026 GBP) to release the man, a trader, but 40,000 MXN (1,610 GBP) was eventually paid and the man released.

Preliminary investigations show that the patrol car is designated to officer Alejandro Breton who belongs to the prosecution of Cuauhtemoc, but he said that he was not involved in the crime as he was on holiday at the time. However, he is under investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
