A 19-year-old gamer has been arrested for stabbing dead a random man in the street because he “wanted to know what it felt like”.

The incident took place in the municipality of Tielt in the Belgian province of West Flanders on 6th March.

Jarod D., 19, was arrested on Monday evening for the killing of Leander ‘Leo’ Quintyn, 32.

He reportedly went to the town centre with a knife and the first person he encountered was Quintyn who he allegedly stabbed several times.

The victim managed to stumble to his nearby home, but eventually collapsed right in front of his house and died of his injuries.

The gamer called his brother shortly afterwards to tell him what he had done, but the sibling did not believe him and did not mention it to anyone at first.

He eventually told one of the suspect’s online friends who reported it to the police, according to the news site HLN.

After the stabbing, the Bruges public prosecutor’s office made an appeal for witnesses that failed to yield any results.

At the end of March, several suspects were arrested on suspicion of the murder, including a convicted burglar, but the prosecutor’s office eventually had to let them go.

It appeared as though the murder would not be solved quickly until the online friend called the police who in turn quizzed Jarod D. and his brother.

The suspect reportedly admitted that he wanted “to know what it felt like to stab someone”.

The 19-year-old suspect will appear before the council chamber in Bruges on Friday.
