These images show how a Spanish international futsal player had his leg impaled on a four-inch splinter during a match which saw him hospitalised.

Rafael Garcia Aguilera, affectionately called Bebe (‘Baby’ in Spanish) was playing a pre-season friendly with his team Inter Movistar FS against CD Burela FS in Illescas, Spain near the Spanish capital Madrid when he suffered a 10-centimetre (four-inch) splinter on his right leg from the parquet floor.

The player had to be taken out of the match and transported to Cemtro Clinic where he received five stitches. Fortunately, the player did not suffer any further injuries.

He posted a picture which shows the grim injury to his right leg and the huge splinter which was taken out of his flesh.

Rafael Garcia wrote: “Thanks everyone for the messages of good wishes and support. Everything ended in a scare within the gravity of the situation (it was only 10 centimetres of splinter) I will be back soon”.

Fellow futsal players in the Spanish first division commented on the picture wishing him well.

‘sergiolozano09’ from Barcelona said: “I hope you are well and everything ended in a scare”.

‘alexcienzano’ from El Pozo said: “I hope my friend that everything ended in a scare! Nothing can stop you”.

Garcia Aguilera represented Spain at the UEFA Futsal Euro 2016 held in Serbia. He scored two goals in the championship to help Spain win the tournament.
