This former Miss Malaysia has sparked outrage after telling black protesters to “relax” adding that “the ‘whites’ won” amid the Black Lives Matter protests taking place in the US.

Samantha Katie James made the comments on Instagram Stories where she boasts 170,000 followers and the screenshots were later widely shared on Twitter.

The Miss Universe Malaysia 2017 model, who was raised in an Indian household and is of Chinese and Brazilian parentage, apparently made the comments amid the protests triggered by the death of black man George Floyd.

Floyd was killed by a white police officer who knelt on his neck for over eight minutes in Minneapolis on 25th May.

In one message, James wrote: “To the black people, relax, take it as a challenge, makes you stronger.

“You chose to be born as a ‘coloured’ person in America for a reason. To learn a certain lesson.

“Best you can do is remain calm, protect heart, don’t allow it to crumble. That’s your responsibility.”

In another post, the model said: “I don’t live in America, it has nothing to do with me, but to me, it seems like the ‘whites’ won.

“Because if you’re angry, you respond in rage and anguish. That means it has power over you. They have power over you.”

She added: “Accept it as it is. Until now, hunger and poverty still exist. It is what it is. It’s inevitable.”

According to local media, her comments led to ‘Miss Universe Malaysia’ and ‘Samantha’ trending on Twitter.

One netizen launched a petition to call for the Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (MUMO) to strip her of her 2017 title.

MUMO later said in a statement that James’ comments were “inappropriate, offensive, unacceptable, and hurtful” and that she no longer represents the organisation.
