This shocking image shows a hunter posing with dozens of dead wild geese arranged on the snow to spell out the location of the hunt and the year.

The image of over 100 dead geese, arranged to spell ‘Chukotka 2021’, was taken in the Russian Federal Subject of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and was posted on the Instagram page ‘Hunting_in_siberia’ on 19th May.

The images sparked an online backlash, with netizens criticising the hunter for apparently killing so many birds and possibly affecting their local population.

The photo shows a hunter standing against the background of the inscription “Chukotka 2021”, laid out by more than a hundred carcasses of killed geese in Chukotka, Russia, May 2021. (@hunting_in_siberia/Newsflash)

One Instagram user commented: “A real hunter will never take more than he needs. Furthermore, to make messages from the carcasses…”

Following the online row, the regional public prosecutor’s office confirmed that they would investigate the incident.

Regional prosecutor Konstantin Prokhorov said that “the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Chukotka Autonomous Okrug has been instructed to carry out a check” under “Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Russia with regards to possible illegal hunting”.

It is currently unclear if the hunter, name not disclosed, will face charges for the controversial incident.
