A jailbird released from a Russian prison was arrested again on the same day after he reportedly walked into an off-licence armed with a knife and held up a female shop worker as allegedly shown in this clip.

This footage shows the moment the 40-year-old ex-convict, not named, walked into the off-licence in the settlement of Verkhnedneprovsky in the Dorogobuzhsky District of Smolensk Oblast armed with a knife.

The brave shopkeeper initially tried to stop him from coming behind the counter to help himself to alcohol and cash from the till, but the man was reportedly extremely aggressive and pushes her to the side forcing her to flee backwards protecting herself with a box from a shelf.

With nobody else in the store, the man then helps himself to cash from the till and alcohol and food before leaving.

Cops said he stole some 15,000 RUB (193 GBP) before escaping but the CCTV images allowed him to be quickly identified, and he was arrested at home an hour later.

He has since been remanded in custody and faces up to 10 years in jail on armed robbery charges.

He said he was forced to carry out robbery because he had no money for food.
