Four Germans have been arrested on the Greek island of Crete after two of them carried out a sex attack on a teenage Dutch girl and her 22-year-old friend while the other two sat in the room and did nothing to stop it.

The 19-year-old girl and her 22-year-old friend, who were not named due to legal reasons, told the police that they met the four Germans in a bar in the town of Hersonissos on Sunday night on 8th August.

The German men, who were also not named, later persuaded the girls to come back to their hotel rooms where one of the men, a 23-year-old, raped the 19-year-old, while the 21-year-old tried to rape the 22-year-old woman but was unsuccessful after she managed to fight him off.

At the same time, the two other Germans who were present in the same room did not do anything to help the two women.

After the incident, the two women went to the Hersonissos Police Department where they made an official complaint regarding what had happened.

The Greek authorities immediately went to the hotel and arrested all four men the same night.

Several days later on Wednesday on 11th August, the men were brought before the judge and although they apologised, they also denied any rape allegations.

The men remain in custody at the police station on the island.

A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they have not received any reports from the two victims and added: “If they do [report the case], they will certainly get assistance from us if they want it.”
