Four Die As Train Slams Into Pedicab

Police are investigating after a freight train crashed into a crowded pedicab bringing children home from school and pushed it down the tracks leaving only one child as a survivor.

The accident happened in the township of Daze in Suzhou City in China’s eastern Anhui Province at 11am local time on 25th March.

Authorities say the pedicab carrying two adults and three children was slammed into by the freight train hauling coal across country.

The smaller and crowded three-wheeled vehicle was pushed along the tracks, with four of the five passengers losing their lives in the process.

Footage taken in the aftermath of the horrific accident shows the pedicab badly misshapen after having been hit and pushed along the tracks by the freight train.

The victims have been identified as two sisters surnamed Wei, who were in their 50s, as well as two schoolgirls who were second-year pupils at a local primary school.

The police said the kids had been picked up from school and were on their way home when the accident happened.

However, it is still unclear whether they were attempting race the train across the tracks at the time of the fatal collision.

Authorities say the surviving child is still receiving treatment in hospital.

They did not reveal the child’s name, age or gender.

Further investigations is underway.
