A former MP claiming to be the Messiah says Russia’s Ukraine war proves he is Jesus reborn to save humankind as prophesised when it was said a war would take place signalling Armageddon and heralding the return of the Saviour.
Hasan Mezarci, 67, is a fundamental Islamist and a former member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey between 1991 and 1995, who was expelled from the Refah Partisi (The Welfare Party) and imprisoned for his extreme views against secularism.
In an interview that he gave on 25th November 2000, Mezarci stated that God had informed him that he was the Messiah while in prison for his religious views, and he had agreed to walk the path of righteousness with his apostles.
In Islam, the word Messiah refers to Jesus. Islamic tradition believes that Jesus will return at the end of times to defeat al-Masih ad-Dajjal (the false Messiah), a figure similar to the Antichrist in Christianity, and become the leader of the faithful.
He sent letters to then-Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew I on 11th January 2012, and to then-Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on 24th January 2012, demanding they reject following the wrong path and begin to follow him.
Since the day he declared himself the Messiah, Mezarci continues his life in the village of Aydinpınar in his hometown of the Turkish province of Duzce, and continues his activities with his apostles (witnesses). He is also active on his own website and social media accounts.
Commenting on the Ukraine conflict on his Twitter account, Mezarci wrote on 28th February: “The belief that ‘There must be a war of Armageddon for the Messiah to come’ is dragging the World into apocalyptic war! There have been world wars, the Messiah has come! There is no war, no killing, in Christ’s teaching. Let the bells ring, let the salutations be sung; Let the coming of the Messiah be announced to the whole World. THE MESSIAH IS HERE!”
He added that unlike himself Putin was evil, saying: “Putin is a power-poisoned imperialist who robs and exploits the Russian people with his oligarchs! Leaders like Putin are the scourge of their own people! The Messiah is against war, occupation, killing, and is in favour of peace, regardless of religion, language, race, ideology, sect, country, region!”
