The hugely successful art installation which saw dozens of trees planted inside an Austrian football stadium is being moved out of the arena as the cold winter sets in.

The ‘For Forest’ installation was exhibited at the Worthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, within Corinthia, Austria from the 8th September until 27th October and saw tree species such as silver birch, alder, aspen, white willow, hornbeam, field maple and common oak planted on the pitch.

The dismantling of the tree installation begun the following day on Monday, 28th October 2019 as the contract states that the trees must be removed from the stadium by the middle of November where they will then winter on the grounds of a nursery located in Tulln.

Over 200,000 visitors came to see the installation, with 8000 people coming to visit on the final day, Sunday 27th October 2019.

Klaus Littman, who wanted to bring the idea to life, says he had hoped that the art installation would be preserved in its entirety and remain in Carinthia but due to the viability of the project and the football club (Austria Klagenfurt) wanting their home back, it must move on.

Littman said: “Klagenfurt will always be the birthplace of For Forest.”

The installation shows support towards the growing issues regarding climate change and is a reminder that if nature continues to be taken for granted, it may soon only be accessible in selected areas.

It is not yet known where the trees will be moved to for the next installation, however, there is speculation that they will move within close proximity to the Austrian capital Vienna.
