A Roma star’s pretty mum has said “it is better to be envied than to be pitied” after sexist chants were directed at her during a match.

The sexist chants were heard during Roma’s 2-0 loss to Parma during their Serie A match in the city of Parma located in northern Italy this past Sunday 10th November.

The chants from the Parma fans were directed at Roma superstar Nicolo Zaniolo’s mother Francesca Costa, 41, in which “la mamma di Zaniolo e una puttana” (Zaniolo’s mother is a wh*re).

Shortly after the chants Costa took to social media and responded by saying: “To the sexist chants we answer with a smile. Always.

“It is better to be envied than pitied. Thank you, love.”

Ending the post with “explain to them that we laugh about this”.

Costa also took the time to thank fans for showing their support saying: “In this post, I want to thank the Roma fans for your thousands and thousands of messages showing support for Nicolo and the entire family. Your affection is truly touching and incredible.

“Furthermore, I want to thank the Napoli fans that have taken the time to write two or more words despite the disappointing result, showing their love for Nicolo writing the most beautiful and genuine things, something football does not always show.

“This football can only be loved. Thank you again for your sportsmanship!”
