This footage showing a phone battery exploding in an electronics repair shop reveals how dangerous they can be after it burst into flames seconds after being plugged in, sending two workers fleeing to opposite sides of the office.
The incident was filmed at a repair centre in the city of Aparecida de Goiania in the Brazilian state of Goias.
Shop owner Wesley Gomes, 30, said the battery exploded shortly after being connected to a computer for repair.
In the footage, the battery is seen exploding as it rests on top of a computer near two staff members in red T-shirts.
Flames leap from the device as the two men flee to opposite sides of the office.
After a few seconds, the fire dies down and the two workers check on the device.
At the end of the clip, the heavyset work is seen using an object to knock the charred battery onto the floor.
Gomes explained that the battery was “swollen” and blew up just seconds after being plugged in, adding that no one was injured in the incident.
He said: “It was a very big scare, it’s happened twice in the store, but this was the first time it was so dramatic.”
The repair centre owner said they will reimburse the customer with a new battery.
Gomes also warned clients: “It is important to charge the battery without touching the device and make sure you use the appropriate charger.”
