This footage shows US Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuating a crewmember from the vessel Palona by lifting him up in a chopper.

The rescue mission reportedly took place approximately 450 miles south of the city of Kodiak, in the US state of Alaska, on Tuesday, 4th October.

Palona crew reportedly informed the 17th District Command Center watchstanders via email, saying they need medical assistance for a 41-year-old male crewmember who was experiencing abdominal pain and other medical complications.

In the footage obtained by Newsflash, an Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew can be seen arriving on the scene of the medical emergency.

The US aircrew safely hoisted and transported the patient to Kodiak, where they conducted a wing-to-wing transfer with a LifeMed crew, according to the US Coast Guard’s statement.

Matthew Barnaby, a watchstander at the 17th District Command Center said: “Having a secondary aircraft assist in a medical evacuation like this is a common procedure in the Coast Guard and reduces the risk during operations conducted so far offshore.

“The C-130 aircrew was able to provide a communications platform while the MH-60 aircrew conducted the hoist and transfer of the patient. In the event of an emergency, the C-130 crew would be on scene to provide lifesaving rescue equipment.”
