Footage of a cow stuck on a roof at a ranch in Brazil has puzzled netizens, who wondered how the bovine got up there.

The cow was rescued from the roof at the ranch in the municipality of Timbo, in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, in the late morning of 25 October.

The owner of the ranch, Valdecir Santiago, revealed that the cow, whose name is Nina, had jumped a fence and gained access to the roof from a side street, which is at a higher level than the building.

He told local media: “I don’t know what she was trying to do.”

The heavy heifer got trapped in the roof after breaking a number of tiles, causing its legs to fall through and dangle below the ceiling.

The owner of the ranch called a vet, who sedated Nina before the fire brigade finally brought her down from the building on ropes and an improvised ramp.

Only a few hours had passed between the trapped bovine being found and its rescue. Nina, who is one year and eight months old, suffered minor injuries to her hooves.

A local reporter commented: “I’ve seen cats on roofs. Even dogs on roofs. Now a cow? For me, at least, it was the first time. I don’t know about you.”

Netizens amused at the story nicknamed Nina the “vaca voadora” (flying cow).
