FLASH FLOOD: Sudden Water Level Rise Kills Two Of Three

Two climbers suffered a terrifying death when they were exploring a canyon in Mallorca and were overwhelmed by a flash flood.

Luis Paris Musolas, 37, Martin Prado Mestre, 28, and Marina Cuevas, 29, were canyoning at the Torrent de l’Assarell in Pollenca on the morning of 28th November.

But heavy rains suddenly caused water levels to rise dramatically, and the three became trapped.

Marina managed to call emergency services, but rescue workers were unable to get to the group until 10pm.

Dramatic footage from the Spanish Civil Guard shows how Marina was winched to safety from a rock by helicopter.

But Luis and Martin were not so lucky. Their lifeless bodies were found by the force’s mountain rescue group late at night.

Rescuer Victor Fernandez later told local media: “It’s an area that’s boxed in, all the water makes a kind of funnel and gains a lot of strength.”

Marina took to social media to describe the events as “incredible” and a “nightmare”, adding that “it will take me a while to accept everything”.

She said Luis “pulled me out of a deadly waterfall without separating from Martin at any time”.

She revealed that he threw her the rucksack with the phone with which she called emergency services, saving her life.

Luis and Martin, like Marina, worked at Son Llatzer Hospital in Palma de Mallorca. One was doing an anaesthesiology residency and the other was a nurse.
