First Pic Of Afghan Man Killed After Two Trains Crashed In Germany

This is the first picture of the Afghan man who was killed after two commuter trains collided in a deadly crash near Munich in Germany.

Afghan refugee Mustafa M., 24, full surname not reported due to strict local privacy laws, lost his life when the commuter train he was travelling on hit another train.

The crash took place just north of Ebenhausen-Schaeftlarn station, located outside the city of Munich in the southern German state of Bavaria at around 4.40pm on Monday, 14th February.

The crash also injured at least 10 other people, including the train driver, who was reportedly seriously injured and has not yet been heard by investigators, according to local media reports.

Mustafa M. had arrived in Germany in 2018 following the arduous journey from Afghanistan, and he was living in a shelter in the Bavarian town of Wolfratshausen.

The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, 65, of the CSU political party, said: “A technical problem is currently ruled out.”

German newspapers are reporting that the train driver allegedly left the station after the stop, but he had not yet been given the green light to continue, so he then allegedly deactivated the automatic emergency braking system.

The train then left the station with 95 passengers on board before rounding a bend on the single-track line.

An eyewitness told the German daily Bild: “The train came out of the station. Suddenly, it braked. The wheels sparkled and glowed. Then there was a huge bang.”
