This is the heartwarming moment a team of firefighters rescues a little dog that one said was a puppy from an underground pipe in the tourist island of Gran Canaria.

The rescue operation was filmed in the municipality of Arucas in Gran Canaria, one of the Spanish Canary Islands, and the footage was later shared by the local fire brigade on social media.

In the video, several firefighters are seen trying to rescue the trapped pooch from the underground pipe at night.

Three men place their hands into the pipe as colleagues shine lights on the area to help them see what they are doing.

One firefighter says: “Pull her gently, let’s see if she comes out.”

A firefighter is then seen slowly pulling the dog out of the pipe before the grateful animal is greeted by another pooch and onlookers cheer the happy scene.

A firefighter says: “Hold her, do not let her run away. She is younger than the male. Do not go into the pipe again!”

The firefighters celebrated the successful rescue with a message on social media that said: “Our job is great! We had an emergency call at the Arucas Fire Station asking to help rescue a puppy trapped in a pipe. It had a happy ending!”
