This is the moment a brave cop risks his life to save a yelping dog by running into a blazing inferno and carrying the grateful pooch from the flames.

The fire took place in a house in the neighbourhood of Nandeoroga in the village of Ruiz de Montoya in Misiones Province in northeastern Argentina.

According to local media, the police went to the scene when several neighbours called them and officer Marcelo Dos Santos heard a pooch howling while a fire was burning the house.

The footage shows the moment the cop puts a pink blanket over his shoulders to protect himself from the flames and runs into the garden which is on fire.

The policeman is then seen walking out of the burning backyard holding the pooch by his neck to take it away from the flames.

Reports said the dog was taken to a vet as it had suffered burns on his back but its life is not ain danger.

Firefighters reportedly arrived at the house shortly after and put out the fire.

Local media reported the house belongs to Daniel R. and it was completely destroyed in the fire. The municipality and some neighbours have reportedly offered help to the man.

It is unclear why the fire started and no injuries have been reported.
