This is the figure of ‘Jesus Christ’ which has been found in the centre of a tree branch and netizens have labelled it as a “sign” from God.

The discovery was made as Odimar Souza was pruning trees so Monte Castelo Avenue could be paved in the town of Itaquirai in the southwestern Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Souza, who is the director of the roadworks, told local media outlet Globo that during the work some workers saw figure similar to a butterfly in the trunk.

The chainsaw chain then broke, and after it was replaced and the cut was complete the figure of “Jesus Christ” could be seen in the cut branch.

He said: “We cut this same trunk into two pieces after changing the chain, and that was when this piece of perfection appeared.”

Souza uploaded photos of the trunk online and he told Globo they quickly began making waves, saying: “Even one of my nieces in Italy called me to find out more about the image.”

The local parish and churches have not commented on the situation but netizens were quick to comment, such as ‘Jonas Jose Rodrigues’ who wrote on Facebook: “My God, it is clear that He lives.”

And ‘Suzi Klassen’ added on Facebook: “My God this must be a sign.”

However, not everyone was so convinced, such as ‘Marcia Karine’ who wrote on Facebook: “Burn mark.”
