This footage shows the moving tribute by FC Nantes to Emiliano Sala who died tragically in a plane crash one year ago.

The footage, which shows a huge image of Sala in the centre of the pitch of the Beaujoire stadium, was shared by FC Nantes on their Twitter feed yesterday evening at 5pm and currently has over 600,000 views.

Minutes before FC Nantes took on Bordeaux, in front of a packed stadium of 30,000 fans, the tragic striker’s name was chanted by supporters, following which, a minute’s applause was observed.

The FC Nantes players, for the occasion, wore a white shirt with barely distinguishable blue lines, in tribute to the Argentine player. The Bordeaux players, where Sala started his career in Europe, had his initials and the Argentina flag on their chest.

Fans also sang a chant they have chanted for a year now, at every match in the ninth minute of play, in honour of the striker, whose number 9 shirt, for now, has been withdrawn by FC Nantes.

Netizens appear moved by the footage, with ‘Anicia Henon’ commenting: “F*ck, you gave me shivers, honestly, much respect to you the canaries” (a nickname for FC Nantes).

While ‘Elco’ said: “Damn dust in my eye, this is magnificent, well done to the club and the supporters.”

And ‘Eric de LA CHESNAIS’ said: “Superb homage to Emiliano Sala. We will never forget you!”
