This footage shows a young woman and her father being rescued after being stranded over 65 feet in the air when the chair swing amusement park ride they are on suddenly malfunctioned.

The frightening incident happened at the West Lake Happy World theme park in Tongling City in China’s eastern Anhui Province on 13th April.

The woman and her dad, whose ages were not given, were the only two park-goers on the swing ride, which hoists seated patrons more than 20 metres (65 feet) into the air before sending them flying round and round.

However, the faulty swing carousel suddenly malfunctioned at its highest point, with all the chairs pausing in mid-air.

Members of the fire service were dispatched to the theme park, but the father and daughter had to wait more than 30 minutes before they could be brought back down again, reports said.

Footage of the rescue shows firefighters helping the pair onto an aerial ladder and giving them safety helmets to wear before lowering the device back to the ground.

The daughter, who did not appear to cry throughout the rescue, appears to break down in tears of joy and relief at having been rescued.

West Lake Happy World said in a statement on 14th April that the ride was still closed to the public while they investigate the exact cause of the malfunction.
