A man going through a divorce has stabbed his sleeping security guard colleague to death after days of being unable to sleep because of his snoring.
Police in Bodrum, Mugla Province, arrested security guard Muzaffer Eser, 28, for the frenzied attack on his work colleague in their shared dormitory on Friday, 2nd December.
He has been arrested on charges of stabbing to death his colleague and roommate, Kenan Maral, 29.
Eser allegedly launched his attack while his victim was asleep, plunging a knife into his body 20 times.
The two men had been working as security guards at a beachside hotel and were sharing a room.
Eser had constantly complained about Kenan’s persistent snoring, and the two had even argued about it, including the evening before the alleged crime, said reports.
His snoring had annoyed the suspect so much that he had even changed his hours because of it, switching from a day shift to a night shift.
It was when Eser arrived back at his room following his first night shift that he launched his onslaught, local media reported.
Following the bloody incident, police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene. Kenan was pronounced dead, while the suspect was arrested without resistance.
Eser was remanded in custody, while his victim was taken to the morgue of Mugla Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.
Local media reported that the suspect was under severe psychological stress and was in the middle of a divorce.
The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
