This farmer has been arrested for stealing ducks and chickens from his rivals’ farms and selling them to put petrol in his prized 228,000-GBP BMW after falling on hard times.

The farmer, whose name has not been reported, was arrested in Linshi county in Central China’s Sichuan Province for carrying out a series of raids on other farms in the area.

Local media report the farmer, 50 years old, is wealthy and lives in a large house but had run into financial problems and so needed to begin “subsidising” his petrol costs for his BMW, with a reported 2 million CNY (227,977 GBP), which he described as a “thirsty” vehicle.

Police sources said he had been identified using CCTV cameras and he carried out the late-night raids on a motorbike.

He reportedly admitted to cops to stealing the birds before taking them home, raising them and selling them on.

A police officer told reporters that the suspect had almost escaped cops when they began chasing him in his BMW. The cop said that the German car was much quicker than theirs on the motorway but they managed to nab the suspect when he turned off the motorway and entered a small village with narrow roads.

It is unclear if the suspect has been charged.
