Farmer, 29, Dies After Being Stung Over 100 Times By Bee Swarm

A 29-year-old farmer has died after being stung over 100 times by a swarm of bees, leaving her five-month-old daughter without a mum and her husband without a wife.

The incident took place in the municipality of Presidente Getulio in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina on Thursday, 27th January.

Denize Savalagio Kniess, 29, was attacked by a swarm of bees at her farm, where she lived with her husband and infant daughter, and she reportedly suffered over 100 stings in the incident.

According to the news site Metropoles, she was first taken to the local Hospital e Maternidade (Hospital and Maternity) Maria Auxiliadora, but she was transferred to the Hospital Doutor Waldomiro Colautti in the neighbouring municipality of Ibirama the following day (Friday, 28th January).

The hospital director said the young woman needed to be treated in the intensive care unit, and she was intubated in a critical condition. However, she succumbed to her injuries in the ICU two days later.

The hospital said she passed away at around 5am on Sunday, 30th January.

The young mother’s wake was held at the Ireja Catolica de Sao Jose (Catholic Church of St Joseph) in Presidente Getulio on Sunday afternoon, and she was buried in the local Catholic Cemetery on Monday morning, 31st January.

The 29-year-old woman leaves behind a husband and a five-month-old daughter.
