This 27-year-old mother-of-two has died after allegedly having alcohol poured over her and being set on fire by her husband – leaving her with burns to 90 percent of her body.
The incident took place on 29th December in the house victim Florencia Coria shared with her husband Cristian Alberto Cabrera, 42, in the town of Villa Constitucion in the province of Santa Fe in Argentina.
According to the testimony of the victim’s relatives, the couple had had a long argument when Cabrera allegedly pour alcohol over his wife and set her on fire.
The victim was taken to Clemente Alvarez Emergency Hospital with burns, including second-degree burns, to 90 percent of her body and died 10 days later.
Her husband was also admitted to the hospital with burns on his arms and his hands.
He was arrested and accused of attempted femicide and gender violence by the criminal judge Ignacio Vaca before being placed under house arrest.
However, after the victim died the suspect reportedly failed to show up to a court hearing and fled his home. He was later found in the neighbouring town of Estanislao Lopez and arrested.
The victim had two children, a seven-year-old son from a previous relationship and a three-year-old daughter with the suspect.
The couple were married on 16th December 2015. That same day Florencia Coria reportedly went to the police station and denounced her husband for hitting her.
Her relatives claim the suspect regularly abused her for the next four years and she had reportedly filed several criminal complaints against him.
The suspect claims the victim had injured herself in the argument. The investigation is ongoing.
