A dad accused of choking his five-year-old son to death before sending a picture of his corpse to his ex-wife has been seized by police.
It is understood that Gabriel Enrique Gonzalez Cubillos, 50, allegedly carried out the killing because his ex had started a new relationship.
Their son Gabriel Esteban’s body was found in a room at a hotel in the resort town of Melgar, in the Department of Tolima, in central Colombia.
Gonzales Cubillos was later arrested at a traffic checkpoint in the municipality of Nilo, in the Department of Cundinamarca, also in central Colombia, after he tried to bribe the police to let him through, according to local media.
He allegedly kidnapped his son on Sunday, 2nd October, before murdering him in the hotel in the early hours of 3rd October.
He then reportedly sent his ex – Consuelo Rodriguez – a photograph of the boy’s body and a message allegedly admitting he had killed him.
The WhatsApp message reportedly read: “He did not suffer. Now you can enjoy yourself alone with Edilson and Wesly without Tricitico and much less me. Congratulations.”
The identities of the other people mentioned in his message are currently unclear.
Horrified Consuelo called the police, who launched a manhunt for the suspect.
He had also reportedly left a USB stick at his ex-wife’s before allegedly carrying out the murder, detailing his sick plan.
Gabriel Esteban was found dead at the Hotel El Rey, in Melgar, according to local media. He reportedly died of mechanical asphyxiation.
The investigation is ongoing.
