Edinson Cavani has scored his 200th goal for Paris Saint-Germain and the Uruguayan striker was visibly moved when asked about it saying it was a “special moment.”

According to FIFA, Edinson Cavani is “the first man to score 200 goals for PSG.”

He scored in the 25th minute of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) – Bordeaux match (4-3) yesterday (Sunday).

After the match, when asked how scoring his 200th goal made him feel, Cavani said: “It’s a special moment. It’s a time when you think about what happened before: the days of training, the days of frustration. For all that, it’s incredible and magnificent.”

Asked if it was the best moment he has enjoyed at PSG, the 33-year-old striker replied: “No, no, it’s not the most beautiful. I’ve already had a great time here too. At the same time, it is only a goal that does not give us a title. It is a goal. Just a goal that makes you feel things and makes the moment special.”

He added that January was a “special, difficult month, very difficult for me. I think you know why I mention this. But I’m here to continue my adventure in Paris. I am happy and proud to continue.

“And as I said before, I will give my best until my last day here. It’s hard for every player to go through moments like this but, in the end, it’s part of the job, of football, and I need to keep working.”

Bordeaux may have lost the match but they gave the Paris club a run for its money, highlighting cracks in their defence.

For PSG, Cavani scored in the 25th minute, while Marquinhos scored twice, in the second minute of additional time in the first half and then again in the 63rd minute of play. Mbappe scored in the 69th minute.

On the Bordeaux side, Hwang Ui-jo scored in the 18th minute, while Pablo scored in the 6th minute of additional time in the first half and Ruben Pardo scored in the 83rd minute.

Neymar was sent off in the second minute of injury time and manager Thomas Tuchel said that “it was another bizarre match”, adding that it was “clear there are things to improve.”

Social media in the meantime has erupted in praise for Cavani and his achievement. FIFA said: “2020: Edinson Cavani becomes the first man to score 200 goals for PSG.”
