A terrified passenger hurled himself from a fast-moving bus when an armed robber staged a hold-up.

CCTV footage of the drama – from Manaus, northern Brazil – shows the crook pulling what looks like a handgun from the waistband of his trousers.

And as he marches towards the fare collector, one passenger makes sure he is not going to be around if the bullets start flying.

First, he grapples with the exit door and then, as he manages to wedge it open, he throws himself out.

The bus, though, is moving too fast and he can be seen through the bus window falling heavily face-first onto the kerb during the robbery on 31st May.

Another clip shows how the gunman vaults the turnstile and forces the fare collector to hand over all the cash, as well as her personal belongings.

Following the robbery, the crook reportedly fled. At the time of reporting, he was still on the run.

Police issued the footage from the vehicle’s security cameras to help track him down.

The identity and condition of the passenger who jumped from the bus remain unknown.
