Electrician Left With 60 Percent Burns After 6,000v Zap

This is the moment an electrician is zapped by a whopping 6,000 volts while working at a local mining plant leaving him with 60 percent of his body covered in burns.

The incident happened in the Kovdor district of the Murmansk region in northwestern Russia and was recorded by a CCTV camera.

In the video, the 34-year-old contractor, who has not been named in reports, can be seen dismantling cables at a local mining and processing plant before a massive fireball explodes as he is shocked.

Meanwhile, his colleague can be seen flying through the air.

The victim was hospitalised with a preliminary diagnosis stating that he suffered burns to 60 percent of his body. Reports state he was electrocuted by 6,000 volts.

A full investigation is being carried out to establish all the circumstances leading to the incident.

The regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, which released the video, examined the site of the incident and seized all documentation regarding the admission of workers to the workplace.

Witnesses and colleagues are also being questioned. and part of the investigation will reportedly include a full forensic exam.

The Committee said that the preliminary causes of the accident may have been a failure to check whether the cables were live before the electrician started working on them.

Meanwhile they also state that a lack of protective safety gear may have been at fault.

A case into a violation of labour protection requirements leading to bodily harm has been instigated.

The name of the company has not yet been reported and the investigation is ongoing.
