The wife of drug lord El Chapo has claimed she was sent death threats after the dramatic arrest and release of the former Cartel leader’s son last week.

Emma Coronel, wife of convicted drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, shared the death threat she was sent after the arrest and release of Guzman’s son Ovidio Guzman Lopez last week in the city of Culiacan in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.

Coronel shared a message allegedly sent to her by a user called ‘Alfredo Trejo’ reading: “I wish this f*cking dog and other f*cking narcos in Mexico had been killed today. B*tch, you and your family will be dead. I will make sure of that. You are the f*cking sh*t of Mexico. You and everybody like you.”

The drug lord’s wife said she was taking the threats seriously but deleted the message hours later. Ovidio Guzman is not Coronel’s son.

Local media reported that some weeks ago, Emma Coronel said during an interview with TV channel Telemundo that she began feeling scared in her life after the birth of her twin daughters Emali Guadalupe and Maria Joaquina.

On Thursday, army officers arrested Ovidio Guzman, alias El Raton (The Mouse), one of the 10 children of the drug lord who is serving a sentence of life in prison plus 30 years at ADX Florence prison in Colorado, in the United States after his extradition from Mexico.

Ovidio was arrested in the area of Tres Rios, one of the most exclusive areas of the city of Culiacan but he was later released by the army due to the wave of violence which hit the city following his arrest.

The President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed the Ovidio’s release of the son of Chapo Guzman as “there were many citizens lives at risk, the arrest of a criminal cannot be valued above the lives of people”.

He added “I do not accept the failure of our strategy, this is what conservationists want” and said that “we are very good at strategy and the causes of the insecurity and violence are being dealt with”.

Local media reported that after his arrest, members of criminal gang went out to the streets and attacked the houses where the relatives of the army officers were staying in order to ask for Ovidio’s release.

Ovidio Guzman Lopez was charged in the United States of criminal association with drug trafficking, US authorities reported in February this year.
