This is the moment El Chapo’s trusted henchman is led in chains to a police vehicle to be handed over to the American authorities for extradition to the USA.
The head of security for El Chapo Guzman, named as Jorge Ivan Gastelum Avila, has been flown to America to face justice, Mexican officials revealed on Sunday, 2nd April.
Gastelum Avila, nicknamed ‘El Cholo Ivan’, is accused of being central to the trafficking of huge quantities of drugs to the USA.
Video footage of his final moments in a Mexican jail shows him in a grey prison jumpsuit with steel leg shackles as he is walked towards a police van.
Around his waist, a second set of shackles secure his hands as he moves slowly forward surrounded by police officers.
The gangster was handed over to the American authorities at the Mexico City International Airport, according to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office.
His former boss El Chapo is already serving a life sentence in the supermax jail ADX Florence in Colorado.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Mexican Attorney General’s Office dated Sunday, 2nd April, saying: “In compliance with the Extradition Treaty signed between Mexico and the United States of America, the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), delivered to the government of that country a fugitive of Mexican nationality requested by the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, United States of America for the crimes of criminal association, against health and using, brandishing and discharging a firearm.
“Jorge ‘G.’ is accused of belonging to a criminal organisation and one of the leaders of the Sinaloa [cartel]; responsible for the trafficking of various amounts of drugs to the United States of America.
“The Government of Mexico granted the extradition of the defendant to the Government of the United States of America.
“The fugitive was handed over at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to the US agents designated for his transfer to that country.”
The ruthless gangster will face charges in a New York court, including criminal association in order to distribute cocaine and cannabis in the US.
American investigators say El Cholo Ivan controlled drug trafficking in Guamuchil, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, and commanded an armed group of around 200 men.
They say he also provided security for El Chapo.
The same investigation found that El Cholo Ivan attacked rival criminal organisations, as well as Mexican law enforcement to carry out his boss’ orders.
He was arrested along with El Chapo on 8th January 2016 on the Los Mochis-Navojoa highway.
