A suspected Sinaloa Cartel hitman dubbed ‘Julio Cesar’ has been arrested by Mexican cops who described him as one of the region’s most wanted criminals.

The suspect, whose real name was not revealed, was listed as one of the police’s most wanted targets in the city of Tijuana, located near the border with the United States in the Mexican state of Baja California.

According to the state attorney general’s office, the detainee is a hitman for the deadly Sinaloa Cartel which used to be led by drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, currently jailed in the United States.

He was seized after an arrest warrant was issued for the killing of Bruno Nicasio Gomez Alvarez on 8th September 2019.

According to local media, ‘Julio Cesar’ was taking instructions from the cartel currently led by Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and he has already appeared in court where he has been remanded in custody.

Local newspaper Infobae said that the Sinaloa Cartel is currently trying to recruit young people being rehabilitated in public centres.

The reforming youngsters are being “hired” by the cell Los Chapitos, which is part of the Sinaloa Cartel, and are then used to confront and attack rival gangs in the city of Mexicali, the state capital.

The Sinaloa Cartel is also reportedly active on social networks like Facebook to recruit people aged between 16 and 35.

According to Infobae, the strategy is not to immediately reveal what the youngsters are wanted for, instead offering them jobs as surveyors, security guards, and even for the police, but once they have applied, they are then forced to work as criminals.

The investigation continues.
