An eco-conscious photographer has highlighted the problem of plastic waste with powerful images of models and dancers draped in plastic sheets and wearing gas masks.
Photographer and blogger Daniel Petryczkiewicz launched his #NoBeautyInPlastic exhibition at the Hala Koszyki centre in the central-eastern Polish capital Warsaw on 8th November.
Petryczkiewicz said that he came up with the idea because “nothing is more important than the climate crisis we’re experiencing”.
His powerful images show models swimming in plastic-filled water and dancers draped in plastic sheets with Warsaw’s impressive cityscape acting as the background.
As well as plastic waste, Petryczkiewicz’s images are meant to highlight the issue of air pollution and models are seen wearing gas masks in some photos.
In a recent interview for the magazine ‘F5’, Petryczkiewicz said: “I go into Carrefour, Biedronka or Lidl and I see more disposable plastic than fruit and vegetables.
“I go to a bar and there are plastic straws. I enter an office and there are plastic cups.
“We are in a climate disaster, and we can’t carry on pretending nothing is happening.
“I felt I needed to talk about it and because my medium is the image and the written word, that was the best way for me to do this.”
Petryczkiewicz added: “I believe nothing is more important than the climate crisis we’re experiencing.”
The photographer hopes the exhibition will inspire others to cut down on their use of plastic.
