This is the moment a picturesque plain looks like the seaside after the snow melted earlier than usual this year, causing a huge body of water to flood the area.

This phenomenon took place in the district of Kuryinsky in the southern Russian region of Altai Krai.

According to local media, warm weather has arrived to the region earlier than normal and the snow on the Russian steppe melted away, creating a huge mass of water.

A resident filmed the scene with their mobile phone and shared the footage on social media.

In the video, the normally picturesque plain appears like a beachfront even though the road passing through the steppe is just a few feet away.

Another video shows the same steppe covered in lush grass at a different time of year, but the season was not specified.

The incident caused flooding to several roads and nearby villages and the local authorities cleared most of the water in around 24 hours, according to reports.

Meanwhile, experts warn that the region could be facing further floods as the river level is currently one metre (3.3 feet) higher than normal.

There are reportedly 46 villages, home to around 42,000 people, in the flood zone.
