Bosses have shelled out up to 20,000 USD (15,915 GBP) for the rights to play ‘Baby Shark’ at the iconic Dubai fountain.

The move has seen the kids’ favourite played at the Dubai fountain in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The song follows hot-on-the-heels of other top tunes including Adele’s Skyfall and the Friends theme song.

Each time a song is played, onlookers are treated to an impressive water show as the fountain shoots 22,000 gallons 500 feet into the air in a spectacular scene every hour between 2pm and 5pm and every 30 minutes from 6pm until midnight.

Since the attraction was first unveiled in 2009 , it has been heralded as the world’s largest choreographed fountain system.

The latest singing comes after Emaar – the firm behind the fountain – inked a deal with Pinkfong, the Korean creator of the ‘Baby Shark’ music video and Spacetoon – its Middle East distributors – to develop a special Baby Shark routine.

“We were contacted by Emaar and they requested to have Baby Shark on the [Dubai] Fountain,” Ahmad Weiss, commercial manager of Spacetoon, told local media.

He declined to say exactly how much had been shelled out for the ‘Baby Shark’ tune but said it could be up to 20,000 USD (15,915 GBP).

“They pay a certain licence fee and they can play it as much as they can… It varies, but it is not that high,” he said.

“It starts from USD 2,000 a year with a regular song. Some people use it for PR but in other cases it can reach USD 15,000 to USD 20,000 [a year],” he added.
